What is a sinus rinse
Sinus rinsing also know as nasal irrigation is a method of cleaning the nasal passage of dust, dirt, pollen and any other debris that collects in the nasal passage, it can also help loosen thick mucus, relieve allergy symptoms and can help with colds and flu.
A solution is squirted into one nostril, passes through the nasal cavity and drains out of the other nostril washing out mucus and allergens.
I know it sounds a bit gross and not something that you fancy doing but after a few goes it does get easier and you may see results after just one or two goes.
How to use NeilMed sinus rinse.
For maximum relief rinse once or twice a day and only use as directed.
Fill the squeeze bottle with 240ml of distilled, filtered or previously boiled lukewarm water.
Water can be warmed in a microwave but test the heat before use or you could scald your nasal passage.
Never use plain water from the tap as it will result in a severe burning sensation.
Cut the corner of the sinus rinse mixture packet and pour into the bottle.
Screw the cap and tube on to the bottle.
Shake bottle to dissolve the mixture making sure you place your finger over the cap to stop mixture escaping.
Stand bent forward in front of a sink and tilt your head down.
Place the cap snugly against your nasal passage, keep your mouth open and squeeze bottle gently until the solution starts draining from the opposite nasal passage.
You may find some mixture will drain from your mouths which is quite normal but do not swallow the solution.
Keep squeezing the bottle gently until you have used at least 1/4 to 1/2 of the bottle.
Gently blow your nose without pinching nose completely to avoid pressure on eardrums.
Sniff any leftover solution remaining in the nasal passage once or twice before gently blowing your nose again.
Some of the solution might reach the back of the throat which you can spit out.
Blow your nose gently while tilting your head forward and to the opposite side of the nasal passage you just rinsed to help drain any residual solution.
Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the other nasal passage.

Can it be used for children?
There is a special pediatric kit for kids that uses a smaller 120ml bottle and a smaller nasal aperture on top of the cap.
Adults and children who feel that the volume of the regular 240ml bottle with the larger cap is too large should consider trying the pediatric kit.
Both kits are designed to give the same concentration of solution just in different amounts, 120ml or 240ml.
The therapeutic benefits will be identical with both systems.
Only use the orange sachet with the pediatric bottle and blue sachet in the regular bottle.
Do you have to use a the squeeze bottle to do nasal irrigation?
No … although it is the best method to perform a sinus rinse there are other devices that you can use.
The NeilMed neti pot uses gravity to perform the nasal rinse.
Instead of gently squeezing the bottle as show in step 3 in the how to use guide above you put the spout of the neti pot into the nasal passage and let gravity do the rest.
The NeilMed Sinugator Cordless Pulsating Nasal Wash can also be used for sinus rinsing and as the name suggests it’s battery operated using 3 AA batteries which are included.
Are there any side effects when using the NeilMed Sinus rinse system
No …. As long as you use as directed there are no know side effects.
Final Verdict: Is the NeilMed sinus rinse kit Worth It?
Yes …. Although it’s a bit uncomfortable to use at first you soon get used to it and wonder how you lived without it.
You should find the sinus rinse to be both beneficial and soothing, clearing sinuses with very little discomfort.
Well worth trying at the price and it comes with a money back guarantee if your not fully satisfied.
